Windows 2000/XP
Please note that Starship Titanic for the PC is certified to run under
Windows 95 only. This by extension includes Windows 98, and less so for
Windows-ME (Millennium Edition).
SST was never compiled to run under WindowsNT.
Windows 2000 is a later version of WindowsNT. The codebase for Windows
XP is developed from, but different to, WindowsNT.
The usual failure under Windows NT/2000/XP is that the gamer can get
as far as loading the CD into the computer's tray (all this within the
first room of the game) and then nothing else happens... the game does
not proceed to the next stage but still allows simple actions to be performed
(but not left/right turning of the character). This is not solvable for
Windows NT.
SST can be run under Windows 2000 by installing it with a file named
apcompat.exe
found on the Windows 2000 Installation disc. This file has since been updated
from Microsoft and is available by download from them (the Windows smart
update process should find it). A number of games with the original apcompat.exe
file reported that this did not work for them, but we think the updated
file should sort that out now.
The following reports are all from gamers who have volunteered information
on the subject, and we express our thanks here for their effort.

I have got STT to work under Windows 2000
Here is how i did it.
I just installed it as normal and when to play I run the apcompat.exe
from the win2000 CD and chooses win95 and most important is to chose the
setup.exe on the first disk of STT (not the st.exe in the installed files)
and then press ok.
Then chose play STT on the menu.
I have only tested this on my Dell Inspiron 8000 but it works every
time.
I played thru the hole game doing this.

I've managed to get STT running on Win 2000 and I believe the same method
will work for XP. You need to apply SP2 to Win 2000 and then logged in
with administrator rights run
reegsvr32 %systemroot%\apppatch\slayerui.dll
You'll need to then right click the shortcut to the STT executable,
select properties and then select the Compatibility Tab and choose Win95
compatibility. The only limitation I've found is that the whole game needs
to be installed to the hard disk, otherwise it fails in loading overlay
videoware from the DVD.

By downloading the updated file from this location htttp://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/downloads/tools/appcompat/default.asp
One can then make some changes in the option of the 'run file' in the
start-menu.
Just change the comability mode to windows95 and it will work perfect.
