Can Your Postings Be Changed?
The webmaster and other Admins appointed by the webmaster can alter any
posting. An advisory message to that effect is automatically inserted into
the altered posting. This will usually only be done to remove offensive
material, and sometimes when requested by the owner of the posting.

The Chat Index page in Blue Yonder can direct you to a number of locations,
to include the three English-speaking SST forums located in Network54,
the German-speaking SST forum located in its own domain, and The Galaxy
Café also located in Network54. The German SST forum and The Galaxy
Café are under different managements to the English-speaking SST
forums.
Support pages and downloadable files for the English-speaking SST forums
are located both in Blue Yonder and in the American arm of Tripod.com (their
European service proved disastrously unreliable). Visit counters are provided
by Bravenet.com (who originally provided the forums too, but which were
dreadfully unreliable). So this 'site' is a complex construction using
the best aspects of several commercial and private domains. The disadvantage
of such a construction is that reliability suffers when any one of the
domains fail.
As you move around this site you should not be aware of underlying domain
changes taking place in your browser addressing.
A New Forum?
Most of our early effort was directed towards getting The Digital Village
(or whatever remained of it) to restart their SST Forums. We sought changes
to it: we wanted active moderation to rid us of a couple of persistent
creeps who liked generally disrupting the site's work. Especially we wanted
rid of the Dutch creep ‘Fluis’, who also posted as ‘Unique Horn’ and other
people's names as he felt fit. He had a very unhealthy attraction to the
site's women and children and enjoyed making himself and the place as unpleasant
as possible.
Concurrent with the effort to remake the forum and as an alternative
proposition to TDV, we asked them to consider transferring the English
and German Forums and their web addresses to us, so that we could operate
them ourselves.
In the event, none of these things happened. Instead, TDV set up a link
to our English-speaking site to keep us quiet and to satisfy the needs
of gamers. After his death, the Douglas Adams forums became home to a mob
of lttle bullies who wouldn't let other people post there, so that too
got shut down and took the SST link with it. But by then we had cross-linked
to the new German SST forum (created by those helpers) and the Internet's
search engines had time to get to know us. We no longer needed TDV or the
DNA link, although we know that SST gamers are still being confused and
driven away by the 'closed' old site (their natural port of call when seeking
help).
Operationally our Forums are superior to the Meep Board provided by
TDV and it enjoys effective moderation. It's better than where we were,
we've got no pop-up ads, so we are no longer planning a new forum. |
